School rocket stove

These are construction photos of rocket stoves we built for a school lunch program. We used imported firebrick, insulating firebrick, fireclay, vermiculite, perlite, and castable refractory. We hope to eventually develop local alternatives. It is built inside a 55 gallon drum. With the proper length throat the pot sat up too high above the skirt so I added an extension to further improve heat transfer. We built three at a training and another 1 1/2 at other schools. A local mason should build at least one more. They need to be customized for each pot which is the tricky part. General manual on rocket stoves in English, French and Spanish at:
